Eighth International ADDISS Conference
How Do You Solve a Problem Like ADHD?

26 -28 March 2007
Royal National Hotel, London

There’s no cure for ADHD at the moment but there’s a great deal that can be done to help people with ADHD achieve their full potential. Much of this is around improving understanding of ADHD and providing tools and strategies that work – that’s the focus for the 2007 ADDISS Conference!

The ADDISS conference is open to healthcare professionals, social workers, the probationary service, carers, parents/family, teachers and, where appropriate, the patients themselves.

We hope you can join us in London for what promises to be an informative, lively, challenging and fun meeting. WE will be introducing new speakers and have some very special highlights.

Following up from our ADHD Awareness Week in September last year we shall be sharing in greater detail the findings of the largest survey undertaken in the UK on families living with ADHD. The opening keynote will therefore follow on that theme entitled ADHD and Family Stress presented by Dr Thomas W Phelan. Dr Phelan is better known for his parenting programme 1 2 3 Magic - Effective Discipline for children aged 2-12 years. He will be presenting a workshop on 1 2 3 Magic later in the day.

Confirmed Speakers
Professor Eric Taylor, Professor Peter Hill, Professor Thomas Brown, Dr Gabrielle Carlson, Professor Loretta Giorcelli, Dr David Coghill etc

A full list of workshops and speakers is available on our brochure and booking form.

39th International Danube Symposium

for Neurological Sciences and Continuing Education

Wuerzburg 2-5 June 2007

It is a great pleasure to invite you to actively participate in this congress. You can be sure that the organizers will develop a most stimulating and divers educational and scientific programme consisting of symposia reviewing current aspects listed in the accompanying „hot topic list“. Updates in early diagnostic strategies and combinational treatment strategies will be presented. One of the milestones of this conference is to have as many as possible young scientists and clinicians come to Wuerzburg and we will achieve this with attractive registration fees as well as Fellowship Programmes and Travel Award Programmes.

The joint event with the First International Congress on ADHD gives us themigue opportunity to the message of these congress days in Wuerzburg: “Bridging the ages: from Developmental Disorders to Neurodegenerative Disorders” Wuerzburg is an attractive city located in the center of Germany. Its social and cultural possibilities are framing the extraordinary quality and tradition of its University in general and its Medical Faculty in particular.

Dear colleagues,
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD) is the most frequent neuropsychiatric disorder of childhood and adolescence.During the past decades remarkable evidence has been accumulated for a persistence of ADHD in adulthood, resulting in its reconceptualization as a disorder of the lifespan. Recent research suggests that ADHD is present in ca. 4% of adults, i.e. two third of the estimated 6 % of children and adolescence with ADHD. Investigators from various parts of the world demonstrated that adult ADHD is a valid disorder, can be reliably diagnosed, and predicts future outcome. Longitudinal follow-up studies indicate that ADHD symptoms in adults can impair their functioning and capacity to negotiate developmental challenges. It was confirmed that neuropsychological and biological
findings in adults, including genetics and patterns of brain activation elucidated by EEG or fMRI are similar to those in childhood. Other areas of research have been the validity of diagnostic criteria of adult ADHD or the development of novel pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment strategies. These rapid developments encouraged the establishment of the Clinical Research Program ADHD (KFO 125) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft as a interdisciplinary endeavor of the Departments of Child and Adolescence Psychiatry, Adult Psychiatry, and Psychotherapy at the University of Wuerzburg in 2004. Now the time seems to be mature to discuss multifacetted research findings and to decribe ADHD as a life-long disorder in the dimensions of epidemiology, psychopathology, neurobiology, social functioning, and treatment. We therefore cordially invite you to join us in Wuerzburg, a historical city with a Unesco-World Heritage baroque residence and a tradition of academic life over six centuries, to participate in discussions on neural mechanisms in lifespan ADHD.
Kind regards
